Steve Ellmore is an American filmmaker, veteran, and activist with more than 30 years federal service within DoD and DeptVA.
Following a 20-year Air Force career, he was hired by the Pentagon as a digital media analyst for the DoD's pilot social media program under OSD/PA. For a time he was personally responsible for the social media accounts of Secretary of Defense, Jim Mattis and @DeptofDefense.
Ellmore became a mental health activist following a near-fatal dose of sleeping pills while on active duty. So, when he discovered cannabis as a treatment for PTSD, he made it his mission to complete the critically-acclaimed documentary, Unprescribed.
Following the success of Unprescribed as an advocacy tool for suicide prevention, Ellmore founded The Unprescribed Inc, a nonprofit media company that produces engaging content for addressing veteran suicide.
Ellmore is a graduate of the Defense Information School. He received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Maryland University College and his master’s from Johns Hopkins University, both in communications.
